This Cookie Policy explains how Daily Chronicle Post and our partners use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies, and how you can control them. It is part of our Privacy Policy.
What these technologies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. Session storage is a browser feature that lets a page keep information only while your tab is open. Pixels, also called tags, are small pieces of code that load from another company and report information about your visit to that company. In this policy, we call all of these "cookies and similar technologies."
Types of cookies we use
Necessary
Our articles do not need cookies to display. When a consent management platform (CMP) is active on the Site, it stores your privacy choices on your device so that we can remember them. This storage is necessary to honor your choices.
Analytics and measurement
These technologies help us understand how readers reach and use the Site, and which ads and placements bring readers who engage with our articles.
Advertising
These technologies help measure and deliver advertising. They may be used to show ads, to limit how often you see an ad, and to measure whether an ad led to a visit or an action.
Technologies on the Site
- Campaign information storage (analytics and measurement, first party). When you arrive from an ad or a recommendation link, a script that we run saves campaign information from the link you clicked, such as the utm parameters, ad and website identifiers, and the click identifiers "tblci" and "rtkcid." The cookie and the session storage entry are named "hcp_params," and engagement events are kept under "hcp_events." It keeps this information in session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab or the browser, and in a first-party cookie that expires after 30 days.
- RedTrack (analytics and measurement). A campaign tracking service that we use to record clicks, visits, and engagement events. It may set or read cookies through a tracking address that belongs to us. See RedTrack's Privacy Policy.
- Taboola Pixel (advertising). A tag from Taboola that reports visits and actions that follow a Taboola recommendation, and that may set or read cookies and similar identifiers. See Taboola's Privacy Policy.
- Advertising partner (advertising, to be named). We may add one or more advertising partners to show ads on our pages. When we do, we will list each partner here.
- Consent management platform (necessary, when active). Stores your privacy choices on your device.
The names, lifetimes, and purposes of cookies that other companies set are decided by those companies and can change. Please see their privacy policies for current details. Our servers also keep standard log files. Logs are not cookies, and our Privacy Policy explains how we use them.
How to manage cookies
Through our consent tool
When a CMP is active on the Site, you can change your choices at any time through the privacy controls it provides.
In your browser
Most browsers let you see, block, and delete cookies. These guides explain how:
- Manage cookies in Chrome
- Clear cookies and site data in Firefox
- Clear your cache and cookies in Safari on Mac
- Manage cookies in Microsoft Edge
Closing a tab or a browser clears session storage. If you block all cookies, parts of some websites may stop working. Our articles stay readable without cookies.
Global Privacy Control
Where technically supported, we honor the Global Privacy Control signal as a valid request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information for the browser where it is turned on.
Advertising industry tools
You can also opt out of interest-based ads from many companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance's YourAdChoices tools and the Network Advertising Initiative's opt-out page. These tools work for one browser or device at a time and depend on cookies, so deleting cookies may undo them.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting. Because there is no common standard for it, the Site does not respond to Do Not Track signals.
Your privacy rights
To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, go to Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. To learn about your other privacy rights, read our Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our technologies and partners change. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
