Some state privacy laws, including California's, give you the right to tell a business not to "sell" or "share" your personal information. This page explains what those words mean on Daily Chronicle Post and how to opt out.

What "sell" and "share" mean here

We do not sell personal information for money. But these laws define "sale" and "sharing" broadly. "Sharing" means making personal information available to a third party for cross-context behavioral advertising, which is advertising based on your activity across different websites.

Our use of advertising and measurement technologies, such as the Taboola Pixel and any advertising partner we add, may count as a sale or as sharing under these laws. The information involved can include your IP address, cookie and other online identifiers, click identifiers, and details about how you interact with our pages and ads. Our Privacy Policy has the full details.

How to opt out

You can use any of these options:

  1. Use our privacy choices tool, when it is available. When a consent management platform (CMP) is active on the Site, you can opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information through it. Our Cookie Policy explains how to find it.
  2. Turn on Global Privacy Control (GPC). Where technically supported, we honor the GPC signal as a valid request to opt out of sale and sharing for the browser where it is turned on, and for any consumer profile we can link to that browser. GPC is a setting in some browsers and browser extensions. Learn how to turn on Global Privacy Control.
  3. Email us. Write to [email protected] with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share" and tell us that you want to opt out. We will apply your request to any information we can link to your email address, and we will reply with steps you can use in the browser or device you use to visit the Site.

Cookies belong to a browser, not to a person. You may need to repeat your opt-out on each browser or device you use, or turn on GPC in each one.

We act on opt-out requests as soon as we can, and no later than 15 business days after we receive them. You do not need to create an account, and we do not need to verify your identity to process an opt-out. We will confirm by email when we have processed a request that you sent by email.

What happens after you opt out

  • We stop selling or sharing the personal information covered by your request. That means we stop making it available to advertising and measurement partners for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Where our tools support it, we turn off advertising pixels and advertising partner tags for your browser.
  • You will still see ads on the Site. An opt-out does not remove advertising. It limits the use of your personal information to target it.
  • We may still collect and use limited information for purposes the law allows without your consent, such as operating and protecting the Site, counting visits, fixing errors, and meeting legal obligations.
  • Information that other companies collected before you opted out is covered by their own privacy policies. Taboola explains its opt-out choices in Taboola's Privacy Policy.
  • Your choice stays in effect until you change it. We will wait at least 12 months before asking you to reconsider, and you can change your mind at any time by emailing [email protected].
  • Using this right does not affect your access to the Site or the quality of our articles.

Opt-out tools from the advertising industry

You can also opt out of interest-based ads from many advertising companies through industry tools, such as the Digital Advertising Alliance's YourAdChoices tools and the Network Advertising Initiative's opt-out page. These tools work for one browser or device at a time and depend on cookies, so deleting your cookies may undo them.

Other privacy rights

To ask what personal information we hold about you, or to ask us to delete or correct it, see the "California Privacy Rights" section of our Privacy Policy. You may use an authorized agent to make a request for you. We may ask for written proof that you gave the agent permission. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
